Giving a name to your boat is probably one of the hardest things you can do. You can ruminate for weeks and still not come up with anything that suits you. So, what do you think?

Is there anything in there which you think makes a clever boat name for plaintiff lawyers, attorneys, or judges?

Can I legally call my boat anything I like?

Having worked in the legal profession, I would imagine you probably want to stay on the right side of the law.

Believe it or not, there isn’t actually much you can’t do when it comes to giving your boat a name?

You can read a guide I put together on banned boat nameselsewhere on the website, but there are a few key take outs to consider.

Any boat name for a lawyer you choose must not be deemed to be obscene. If you aren’t sure what that means, look at these dirty boat names where I list a few examples.

Your boat name should also not use any racial slurs or derogatory terms.

And finally, don’t name your judge or attorney boat anything that could cause confusion to the Coast Guard. Think things like “may day”, “coast guard”, or “help me” and so on. A name like that would cause issues if you ever get into distress whilst on the water.

Should you choose a funny lawyer boat name?

All I would say on this, is that it depends on you.

However, think carefully about what your boat name says about you. For example, could you imagine pulling into the port with the name below on your attorney or judge’s boat and yacht?

Titan Uranus was not banned

Believe it or not, this is real and was not banned.

That is a genuine boat name! It’s not made-up!

The thing is, in the boating community people will quickly start to recognise your boat in the local marinas and docks. They won’t know you as James, or John, but will know you as your boat name. If you’ve called your boat the “Master Baiter” is that something you really want to be known as after all years working as a judge, attorney, or lawyer?

Probably not!

Another consideration is how your family and partner might view the name. Will it embarrass them?
