Naming your boat is a rite of passage, and it shouldn’t be taken lightly! Just be careful with what you name yours, as once those decals go on, it’s going to be a pain to change it.

Many people will name their boat after their occupation, with firefighters no different. It’s great to have a name that relates to what you currently do for work, or perhaps what you spent a lot of your life doing.

Firemen and women should be rightly proud of their service to the community, so why not give your boat a name about firefighting?

However, what is the best boat name for a fireman?

You could spend hours, days, weeks, or even months coming up with a boat name. I know I did! But I wanted to make things easier for you.

I’ve come up with a list of boat names for firefighters that will get your creative juices flowing and should serve as some inspiration. You can read those below.

Boating naming tips to give you more ideas

You might not like any of the boat names for firemen and women that I’ve listed. If so, take your time to come up with something.

How you name your boat will say a lot about you as an owner. I believe the best ones are those that people will remember, says something about your character, and perhaps even provides a talking point down at the dock.

For example, if you like wine and beer, opt for an alcohol-themed boat name. If you used to work in the police force, go for something relating to law enforcement.

Whatever name you choose, make sure it’s something you can be proud of a few years down the line, and won’t bring embarrassment on you and your family.

Whilst it might have seemed funny to name your boat Titan Uranus late on Friday night at the bar with your buddies, is that really how you want your boating neighbors to know you as?

Here are some tips that should help you settle on a name.

1. Don’t rush into a decision

You might be struggling right now, but believe me, your firefighter-themed boat name will come to you, perhaps when you least expect it.

You might be on an emergency call when something suddenly springs to mind.

Wherever and when you think of it, when it hits you, you will know it’s the one for you.

2. Keep it short and sweet

Names with just two words are best. Anything more than that and it’s no longer a name, it’s now a sentence.

Think practically too.

If you do need emergency assistance from the coast guard, it’s going to be a lot easier to say the name “Burning Passion” then “Lord Vulcan of the High Seas” – and easier for the coast guard to jot down too!

Shorter names will save you money on lettering too. That could be quite important if your firefighter’s pension has all been spent on the boat and you don’t have too much left!

3. Don’t be rude and offensive

Offensive and rude boat names can be funny (here’s a list), but not everyone will share your sense of humor (including your wife and kids!).

There have been cases where yacht clubs and boating clubs have refused people membership due to their rude boat name.

Don’t be that guy; it’s embarrassing.

4. Consider your other passions

Combining passions can lead to a great boat name. If you like fishing and you used to work as a fireman, then the name “Fire Hooks” could be perfect.

It’s lets other people know that you’re more than just a fireman who has a boat. You also love to fish.

The last word…

I took me a long time to name my own boat. In the end I went with my gut feeling and haven’t regretted it since. I hope my own experiences and research have helped with ideas for the best boat names for a firefighter.
