Owning a ski boat is a huge amount of fun, but one thing often overlooked before you purchase is how much does a ski boat weigh (and with a trailer). You’re going to need to know this for safe trailering, maintenance, and storage in the future. I’ve investigated it for you and come up with some common ski boat weights listed below.

The average weight of a ski boat is 4,657 pounds (2,112 kilos). Ski boats have got larger and heavier in the last decade. For that average weight you will need a trailer that weighs approximately 933 pounds.

The answer above is an average ski boat weight. I calculated this by taking some of the most popular models in the market and looking at the dry weight measurements of them with their latest release.

Ski boat weight examples

The models that I investigated were:

  • Centurion Enzo SV244 – 4,559 pounds (2,068 kilos) dry weight
  • Centurion Ri257 – 5,350 pounds (2,427 kilos) dry weight
  • Correct Craft Ski Nautique – 2,945 pounds (1,336 kilos) dry weight
  • Malibu M235 – 6,200 pounds (2,812 kilos) dry weight
  • Malibu TXi MO – 3,100 pounds (1,406 kilos) dry weight
  • Malibu Wakesetter 247 LSV – 4,650 pounds (2,109 kilos) dry weight
  • MasterCraft ProStar 2019 – 3,300 pounds (1,497 kilos) dry weight
  • MasterCraft X26 2019 – 6,700 pounds (3039 kilos) dry weight
  • Moomba Outback 2013 – 2,800 pounds (1,270 kilos) dry weight
  • Super Air Nautique G25 – 6,400 pounds (2,903 kilos) dry weight
  • Super Air Nautique 230 – 4,650 pounds (2,109 kilos) dry weight
  • Supra Comp TS6M 1989 – 2,350 pounds (1,066 kilos) dry weight
  • Supra SE 2019 – 6,150 pounds (2,790 kilos) dry weight
  • Tigé RZX3 2019 – 6,000 pounds (2,722 kilos) dry weight

One thing I noticed was that older models dating from the 1980s and 1990s were much lighter. Over the last ten years, ski boats appear to be getting heavier and heavier.

This shift towards larger boats, can be traced back to the mid 1990s onwards, when there was a big increase in wakeboarders. Manufacturers such as Correct Craft and MasterCraft took advantage of this trend with larger wakeboard boats.

Wakeboard boats featured an open bow and v-drive engine which was rear-mounted. This gave the manufacturers more room for seating, with passenger loads of up to 11 people now possible.

How much does a ski boat and trailer weigh?

I don’t know what weight of ski boat you own, and what trailer you have. But we can revert back to some average again to give you a decent idea on what the two combined together might weigh.

An average ski boat and trailer weigh 5,590 pounds, or 2536 kilos. This figure is calculated by taking the average weight of a ski boat at 4,657 pounds and adding the correct trailer weight for that size of 933 pounds.

If you are still not sure what weight of trailer you are going to need, the table below shows estimates for what trailer you need, depending on your ski boat’s weight.

How much does a 20-foot ski boat weigh?

20-footers are amongst the most popular size of ski boat. But how much do they weigh?

On average, a 20-foot ski boat weighs 2,778 pounds which is the equivalent of 1,265 kilos.

  • Axis A20 – 3,500 pounds (1,588 kilos) dry weight
  • Centurion Carbon Pro 20 – 2,100 pounds (953 kilos) dry weight
  • Malibu Response 20 – 2,450 pounds (1,111 kilos) dry weight

  • Tige 20i – 2,800 pounds (1,270 kilos) dry weight
  • Tige RZR 20 – 3,100 pounds (1,406 kilos) dry weight

What does dry weight mean?

You will notice that I have listed these ski boat weights as being “dry weight”, but what does that mean exactly, and why did I use this measurement?

Dry weight is the unit of measurement used by boat manufacturers to specify how much a boat weighs when it has no fluid in the tanks. It also doesn’t include any passengers, gear, or modifications.

The reason it’s important is because it tells you exactly how much your boat weighed when it rolled off the production line.

But, if you have added any accessories, equipment, or mods to your boat, you need to know how much those weigh in addition to the dry weight. Knowing this will let you trailer safely and have the correct trailer for your use.

If you are unsure, you can go to a truck weighing station for an accurate an up to date figure. This is particularly important when buying a used boat, as you might not know it’s history and what’s been changed on it.
