I’ve lost count of the number of doctors and retired surgeons I’ve met during my boating life. There’s something about sailing and fishing that seems to appeal to them. I get that. It can be a stressful career, so who wouldn’t want to unwind with some time on the water.

What I’ve also noticed is the creativity involved in naming their boats. It seems to me that doctors, physicians, and surgeons have quite wicked sense of humors – examples of which you can see below in this list of boat names for doctors.

Take a look to see what you think. Some are funny, some use word play and puns, and others will just appeal to those working in the healthcare profession.

But above all, I hope these boat names for doctors, surgeons, and physicians give you some great inspiration on what you could call your next boat.

Need more naming inspiration?

If none of the boat names for doctors above take your fancy, then take a look at these other lists that have been published on Pontoonopedia:

How to name a doctor’s boat

Not that great, are they? Give your doctor boat one of these names and chances are you are going to run into someone else with the same name given their popularity.

Here are my tips on how you can come up with a better name, and something that is unique, means something to you, and is a reflection on your personality as a doctor or surgeon.

1. Just use a short name

The benefits to one or two words are pretty clear. For starters, it will be able to fit in a space, without the need for using a really small and ineligible font and lettering.

I will also be easier to spell out over VHF radio, especially if you are in trouble and need to call a mayday for the coast guard.

2. Don’t use something embarrassing

Other boats owners will never remember you real name. If you’re Doctor Simon Jones but your boat is called Master Baiter, guess what people will call you by at the marina.

Do you really wanted to be known as the guy who owns the Master Baiter yacht or pontoon boat?

Master Baiter

Master Baiter isn’t what I would choose, but it did make me laugh. Image credit unknown, found via Pinterest.

It’s a bit of come down from your days as a successful and respected surgeon isn’t it?

3. Choose something original

There’s no law against having the same name as another boat, but why would you even bother?

It’s only going to lead to confusion when you come into dock and realise that there’s another Serenity docked up next to you.

The last word…

Naming your boat is a rite of passage.

But, it can take a long time to settle on something that you are going to be happy with long-term

As a doctor, I suggest either a boat name that is a pun, such as “Out of Patients” if you have retired, or something that reflects your personality or means something to you and your family.
