Understanding Pontoon Boat Corner Caps and Casting Brackets

Pontoon boat corner caps and casting brackets play huge roles  in maintaining your boat’s structural integrity and protecting it from potential damage.

Below is more info on pontoon boat corner caps and casting brackets, their purpose and importance.

What are Pontoon Boat Corner Caps?

Corner caps are protective fittings designed to cover the exposed corners of pontoon boats, right where the railing and deck meet. Typically, corner caps are made from materials like aluminum, stainless steel, or durable plastic.

Corner caps have two purposes. First, they protect against water ingress, which can lead to corrosion and damage to your boat over time.

Second, they protect your boat’s corners from impact damage, like when docking or navigating tight spaces.

Additionally, corner caps provide a clean, finished appearance to your pontoon boat, improving its overall aesthetics.

What are Casting Brackets?

Casting brackets are essential structural components used to connect your pontoon boat’s deck to the pontoons. They’re also referred to as corner brackets or risers, and are typically made from sturdy materials, like aluminum.

Casting brackets ensure a secure connection between your boat’s deck and pontoons. They play a vital role in your boat’s stability and weight distribution, which is why they’re critical for your boat’s performance and safety.

Pontoon Corner Casting on Amazon

Amazon is my preferred retailer for pontoon accessories for a number of reasons. Firstly, I don’t know anybody who doesn’t have an Amazon account already, so it’s simple and easy just to go there, find what you need, and check-out. If you have a Prime membership, you can also get stuff delivered sometimes inside of 24 hours.

Secondly, Amazon always have a very wide range of boat accessories, but when it comes to pontoon boat deck corner caps, this is where they aren’t so good.

In fact, I was quite surprised at the limited stock available online.

I could only find three aluminum boat corner caps available to buy, all of which I have listed below:

  1. Jif Marine Corner Casting (for port side of deck)
  2. Jif Marine Corner Casting (for starboard side of deck)
  3. Jif Marine Large Corner Casting (pack of 2)

The products listed above are only for curved and radius corners, so might not be suitable if you need to fit casting to square corners. Go take a look anyway, read the reviews, and decide whether or not these will fit your boat.

How to Fit Pontoon Corner Caps

One of the more common issues that boat owners will face when looking to replace their pontoon boat corner casting is that they only need to replace one and not all, as it’s only a singular corner of the brackets that will be lost or damaged.

With older boat models, whether an Avalon, Bentley, Sweetwater, Sun Tracker, or other brands you even might find it hard to locate an exact match for your existing corner bracket.

In cases such as this, my advice is to replace them all. That way you can buy enough to fit all corners, and they will all match up and you won’t have any odd and out of place looking corners on the deck.

But how do you replace and fit them?

It’s actually relatively simple and straight forward.

How to fit and install the casting caps

Fitting new pontoon boat corner caps is simple due to the pre-drilling mounting hole that you simply bolt or screw through into the deck.

With almost all pontoon boat plastic corner caps or aluminum casting, they will come with pre-drilled mounting holes in them which will let you drill straight through into the wooden deck.

In fact, I have never seen a corner cap that doesn’t come with a pre-drilled hole already in it, so you just need to position the casting in place, and then bolt or screw them straight in.

You might find that on older pontoon boats you will need to modify the plywood deck edge if the radius of the pontoon corner caps is too small. It’s not a hard job but will require a little cutting, sanding, or extending the area in which you bolt through.

They are very simple to fit I promise you and will create a great finishing touch that looks clean and tidy on your pontoon deck.
