The origin of the word “boat” can be traced back hundreds of years. Language experts believe it originates from the word “bat” which was an Anglo-Norman word for a boat, ship, or vessel.

The Anglo-Norman language was developed during the years 1066 to 1204. This is the period when England and the Duchy of Normandy were united after the 1066 Norman invasion of the British Isles.
