Boat names are an amazing way of telling everyone else a little bit about you, your loves in life, your background… plus your profession or ex-career.

But what are some good teacher boat names? What type of name can you use to convey your personality (but with a bit of a twist)?

I can help you, as I did a little research and brain-storming into some funny boat names for teachers 12 months ago.

Why?

Because last year my uncle retired from 40 years of teaching. He’d never owned a boat, so I helped to choose a used pontoon boat… he wasn’t keen on the name it already had though.

We sat down for 30 minutes and tried to come up with as many education and teaching related boat names that we thought he could re-name his new pontoon with.

I won’t tell you what we settled on, as I only think it’s only fair he keeps his new teacher boat name to himself.

But what I have done is list all the ones we didn’t use below to give you some inspiration.

You might not think all of them are good, or even funny as some have a pun included. But it might just help you to get on the right track for naming your own boat this year.

Some more inspiration

If you haven’t seen anything you like there, but still want to find a funny, clever, or inspired boat name for a teacher, then take a look at the different lists of ideas below. You could adapt something from these lists:

Can you re-name a boat?

Yes, you can, and this is exactly what my uncle did after retiring as a school principal. You are not legally obliged to keep the name in the United States, and can change it to whatever you like as long as it’s not on the banned boat name list(although you could use something that other people deem to be offensive).

Here are some tips on boat naming

  1. Choose a name that won’t cause you embarrassment: when you name your boat, essentially it becomes the name that all other boat owners will know you by. So give careful consideration before you name yours Titan Uranus (and yes, it really does exist).
  2. How will it sound over the radio: think about how your boat’s name will sound if you have to spell it out on a mayday call, or when coming into a new harbor and need to register your stay. The best boat names for teachers are simple to spell, no more than three words, and easy to pronounce.
  3. Don’t bring undue attention onto yourself: whilst it might seem like a great idea to call your boat Drug Money, it could attract just the type of attention you want to avoid when relaxing on the water. The Coast Guard might be very interested in paying you a visit!
  4. Google your boat name before making a final decision: there’s no reason why you can’t have the same boat name as another person, but where’s the fun in that. Do your research on Google and at least at your local marina to make sure nobody is using the same name as it could lead to confusion.

The last word…

Teachers more than anyone deserve to take to the high seas (or lakes), sit back, relax and take it easy. After all, you’ve spent years helping the nation’s children develop and learn, and god knows, that’s a tough job!
